Aesop Coal Drops Yard inhabits a vaulted brick structure that was used to sort and distribute coal in the nineteenth century. The design seeks to bring warmth to the cavernous space with elements that emit, refract, and hold light.

Respecting heritage constraints, the strategy is one of insertion: an independent steel frame supports fiberglass shelving and modular basin units in the first spatial sequence. Amber-tinted concrete underfoot; the steel is painted a gregarious yellow that reflects softly through the translucent panels and central volumes.

The second movement is delineated by two preexisting columns and a dropped ceiling. The mood becomes muted, deep. Butterscotch fabric envelops the back wall and cabinetry; a golden, curvilinear sofa wraps compassionately around the counter.
