Aesop Shepherd’s Bush in London, designed in collaboration with Al-Jawad Pike, is imagined as a walled garden, providing refuge from the bustling retail centre environment. A serpentine screen meanders around the perimeter of the space, referencing historic crinkle crankle walls built by Dutch engineers in the fen country of East Anglia. The sinuous form gives rigidity to a single layer of clay blocks, creating a sense of suspended movement against which aluminium shelves appear to levitate. At floor level, angular furniture is clad in honed resin that contributes translucency and soft tactility to the otherwise mineral and metal store.
